“The only difference between man and man all the world over is one of degree, and not of kind, even as there is between trees of the same species.

The Real Conversation that EVERYONE is Missing in regards to Cam Newton
Let me tell you what is WRONG with Shaun King’s article, Peyton Manning’s Squeaky -Clean Image was Built on Lies (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/king-peyton-manning-squeaky-clean-image-built-lies-article-1.2530395). If he was really concerned about Peyton Manning’s image he would have wrote it ages ago. His outrage is rooted in the blatant racist criticism that Cam Newton was subjected to. Taking the effort to try to deconstruct Manning does not address the ongoing issue of how racism permeates every fabric of life and leisure…In fact I have a hard time even reading this especially from a man who truly understands the science behind the orchestration and implementation of a lie. Hell his life is built on a lie…People in glass houses should not throw stones.
With that said, I need people to realize a REAL dialogue about racism can not be rooted in trying to focus away from the REAL conversation. In the case of Cam Newton, what people were angry about was that he was receiving no credit for his success for leading the Panthers’ to a Super Bowl appearance; but rather his on field persona. Leading up to the Super Bowl people flirted with the conversation that racism was the foundation of the firestorm engulfing Newton, but most would not say it. ONLY after Newton lost did the criticism exacerbated and the conversation about Manning not being a “good guy” gain momentum.
Let’s get it together folks. Whether or not Manning is a” good guy ” or not, does not negate the fact that Newton was constantly disrespected, not given credit for the evolution of his game and the success that had come with it. All this happened because of the color of Newton’s skin, which is not like Manning’s. Issues of race continue to fuel the unfortunate systematic marginalization of people of color. Whether standing opposite of the field from Newton was Manning or Brady the outcome would have still been the same.
The real conversation is why are athletes of color skills sets continually scrutinized regarding their ability to compete; when they reach the same place as their white counterparts? Why is their behavior always under the microscope yet similar behavior by their white counterparts is instantly, explainable, glamorized and often marketable? It’s the double standard that is based on RACE. We have seen it time and time again. The Allowed and acceptable infractions of NON people of color WILL ALWAYS exist, so DO NOT follow the conversation down the rabbit hole and LOSE SIGHT on where the spotlight should be. KEEPING on par with the issue and CALLING people out. Call out the wrong but get back to the right dialogue.
NOW..At the heart of this conversation is race relations in this country. Trying to deflect to what another person from the dominant racial group (WHITE i.e. Manning, Brady) has done or does is NOT the real conversation. It only moves the conversation further away from the essence of what needs to be discussed.
That’s Just MY A Opinion,
